Diatoms: They come in many different shapes and sizes and are one of the most vital plants on Earth. A comprehensive guide to various studies and research fo the amazing Diatoms that produce what is better known as: Diatomaceous Earth (Fossil Shell Flour), and an exraordinary product known as Toxi-Cleanse.
by Jeanne Love, C.N.C., R.N.C.
Thousands of years ago, in all the waters of the Earth, microscopic one-celled plants called diatoms took the minerals from the water and created protective shells for themselves. Diatoms once lived in quantities far beyond the minds ability to conceive, and as they died, their shells drifted to the bottom of the seabeds. In this manner, vast deposits of diatom shells were laid down. Through the history of man's existence, a wide variety of valuable uses have been found for what has come to be called "Diatomaceous Earth". There are now more than fifteen hundred ways in which man benefits from this incredible material left by diatoms, whose shells are composed largely of silicone and trace minerals.

I. The Story of the Diatom
National Geographic, Vol. 155, No. 6, June 1979
Excerpts fromt eh article, "Those marvelous, Myriad Diatoms", by Richard B. Hoover.
"Such perfect architects, these diatoms. They spin themselves intricate houses of opal in the sea. Glittering pinwheels, spirals, stars, and chandeliers! More than twenty-five thousand species of diatoms, and no shell the same. Each a living jewel. My microscope becomes a kaleidoscope.
Diatoms are so exquisite it is hard to believe they are also enormously imprtant. They are, one could argue, the most vital plants on earth. They bob, drift, and sometimes glide through most of the waters of the world in incredible numbers. Just one liter of seawater may contain as many as ten million of these one-celled specks of algae - the primary foodstuff of the sea.
Amazing that the nutrients in each tiny diatom is preserved!
"Not all diatoms are aquatic. Under moist conditions, some live in topsoil, or attached to moss, tree trunks, or even brick walls. Diatoms can endure lengthy droughts. Recently, while studying the famous Van Heurck diatom collection in Antwerp, Belgium. Diatoms vary widely in size, but the very largest measure only a millimeter across. Diatoms are the most abundant kind of phytoplankton, and colder oceans support the greatest numbers. Some dwell near the seabed, and will even burrow into the mud. Most float near the surface, however, to absorb sunlight. There are two basic forms. One group is often called the Centrales. They have markings - rows of pores or spines - that radiate with perfect symmetry. Most Centrales are oceangoing and are commonly wheel-shaped.
They are typically bobbers, drifting near the surface; basking in sunlight and letting nutrients come to them. Then there are the Pennales. Most live in freshwater streams, swamps, or ditches, or on the bottoms of shallow regions of oceans. Many Pennales can move about by themselves. On tidal sand flats of Cape Cod, a species called Hantzschia Virgata demonstrates their locomotion elegantly. When the tide is in, the Hantzschia lie buried in the sand. Marine biologist John Palmer has found that just after the tide goes out the diatoms glide to the surface for a sunbath, turning the sand flats a golden brown.
Remarkably, the Hantzschia know precisely when to burrow back into the sand. They retreat moments before the return of the tide, which could wash them out to sea. Even after weeks in a laboratory, under constant light, they continue to dig in and out of the sand with such accurate timing that Dr. Palmer can use them as tide tables.
Still, to me the diatoms' most impressive skills are as shell builders. They are alchemists, changing dissolved silicon into a silica almost identical to the gemstone opal. The glassy shells are of incredibly varied and beautiful architecture; some are riddled with pores, which both lighten the structure and permit the intake of nutrients and the exchange of gases. In their teeming trillions, diatoms produce oxygen far in excess of their own needs, making an enormous contribution to our atmosphere.
They also play a vital role in the food chain.
There is probably more available organic matter
- in other words ... food -
contained in the world's diatoms than any other living thing!
Sometimes called the grasses of the sea, they are the main fodder for the little vegetarian animals, such as copepods and shrimp-like krill, which make up the zooplankton community. These are typically consumed by small fish such as herring, which in turn become food for larger species.
It requires several hundred billion diatoms to feed a humpback whale for just a few hours. Marine biologist N. J. Berrill estimates that it takes half a ton of diatoms to make a pound of seal. A pound of killer whale, a predator of seals, would require five tons of diatoms. Even the diatoms' own food is of great importance to mankind. The food reserves that they produce through photosynthesis are stored within their cells as minute globules of oil. As ancient diatoms died, they were buried by trillions beneath the sea. Geologic and biologic forces caused the globules to coalesce into pools that became petroleum.
Diatoms were discovered in 1702 by the early pioneer of microscopy, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, who thought they were tiny animals. Not until the 19th century did biologists conclude that, since these organisms perform photosynthesis, they are plants. Diatoms can reproduce at phenomenal rates, some even dividing every four to eight hours. These could become a billion in only ten days' time. Their immense blooms can change the ocean's color for hundreds of square kilometers. Eventually they deplete the available silicon and other nutrients. Great numbers die and sink, carpeting the seafloor with a layer of diatomaceous ooze as deep as 300 meters. Some thirty million square kilometers of the northern Pacific and Antarctic Sea bottoms are buried beneath mantles of dead diatoms. Over the aeons, as oceans rise and continents shift, this ooze fossilizes into rich deposits of diatomaceous earth or diatomite. Diatomaceous earth is mined in the American West for use in industry."

Excerpts from the article, "Diatomaceous Earth. A plant from our past; its origin, development and modern day uses." By Jaynen Kemp Cockrell, Associate Editor.
"Plankton - derived from the Greek word planktos, meaning 'that which is made to wander' - includes all organisms, plant and animal, that are too small to control their movement over long distances and are therefore transported by currents. These organisms are divided into two groups: the animals, or zooplankton and the plants called phytoplankton. The later group is equipped with organelles, known as chloroplast, which contain the green pigment chlorophyll. This allows them to photosynthesize, taking the first step in a long and complex food chain that ultimately ends with man. In fact, they perform 80% of all photosynthesis and are the main replenishers of the earth's oxygen. The largest component of this group is a delicate-shelled creature called the diatom.
There are over 1,500 species of diatoms known and each has a distinctly different skeleton - from pill box - shaped cylinders to flattened disk. The surface of the shells is decorated with fine grooves, pits and pores that create intricate and delicate designs. Their exact composition will vary, depending on what mineral concentrations are in the waters where they are formed. In general, most samples will contain the following elements: silicon, sodium, boron, strontium, vanadium, gallium, titanium, aluminum, manganese, magnesium, iron, calcium, copper and zirconium. All these minerals, as well as the diatom's living protoplasm, serve as the fuel for many higher forms of life, from protozoan to great whales."
The minerals that appear in their most natural form - as these diatoms - are the most easily absorbed.
"In order to survive this widespread perdition and maintain their numbers, diatoms reproduce at a phenomenal rate, each capable of dividing every 18 to 36 hours. This asexual reproduction is accomplished simply by splitting in half, each part taking with it an equal portion of protoplasm (Le. genetic material). Once separated, the young diatom secretes a new half shell that fits securely inside the old one. By this method of reproduction they can increase their numbers by 10,000-fold in only a fortnight. Diatomaceous Earth is a direct result of the diatom's prolific past.
As the millennia wore on, billions of these aquatic creatures died and their shells formed mammoth deposits, some up to 700 feet thick. Layer upon layer of sediment was laid down, the primal waters came and went, but the tiny shells remained. It is this process of fossilization which partially determines a key feature of DE, namely its natural crystalline silica content."
Excerpt from the article, "What in the world is Diatomaceous Earth? And what can it do for the livestock producer? Farmer? Animal owner?" By Janet "J.D." Sands.
"There are two primary types of diatomaceous earth: salt water and fresh water. The purity of fresh water diatomaceous earth deposits is exceptional. Fresh water deposits are so pure that the Food and Drug Administration has given it a food-grade designation."
II. Diatomaceous Earth Applications
A. General Uses
Natural Food and Farming, July/August 1993
Excerpts from the article, "Diatomaceous Earth. A plant from our past; its origin, development and modern day uses." By Jaynen Kemp Cockrell, Associate Editor.
"Diatomaceous Earth, available in 27 countries throughout the world, seems to fit all the given criteria for an environmentally safe insecticide. It has a variety of uses, both in agricultural and residential applications, specifically suited to circumstances and individuals as an alternative to toxic chemicals and fumigants.
DE is used to protect stored grain and feed, and as an anti-caking agent in animal ration. In addition to parasite control, it is used to control insects on agricultural crops, landscape plantings and in nurseries.
DE is also a natural de-wormer. Loss of water by evaporation is the greatest threat to terrestrial organisms...if an insect loses only 10% of its total fluids, death is imminent. When an animal consumes ration treated with DE, internal parasites are affected in the same way that caterpillars and other soft-bodied creatures are; their outer skin is lacerated, prompting a loss of body fluid, which is fatal.
This organic pesticide (DE) has recently been introduced in the southern regions of the United States as a registered ingredient for products in the treatment of fire ants. DE is also useful around the house for control of roaches, ants, bedbugs and many other crawling insects. It can be placed behind counters, appliances and under furniture as well as outside near crevices where insects might enter.
Dogs and cats may also be safely dusted with DE to eliminate fleas and ticks. To achieve the most effective control, their bedding and outdoor play areas should also be dusted."
"There is no doubt that diatomaceous earth is a useful product and one that is effective against a variety of pests.
Whether you use it on the farm or in the home, you can feel secure in the knowledge that you have chosen one of the safest, most effective organic products on the market today."
Acres, U.S.A. January 1990
"Wally Tharp and the Diatomaceous Earth Scene". Excerpts from the Interview with Wally Tharp.
"Diatoms are simply one-celled algae and are found in all water, fresh and salt, on this planet. They are the basic food for all sea organisms. When they die their skeletal remains are deposited on the sea or lake floor, at times in massive layers. It is in these former lakebeds or seabeds that we find our fossilized material.
Kansas State University in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture ran test after test after test on diatomaceous earth protecting grain. Right here in front of me, I have a sample of grain that was put up in 1976, treated one time only and that grain is as fresh and clean as it can be. Grain gets stale and gets a musty smell, but not with diatomaceous earth on it. It has been said that diatomaceous earth, when you grind wheat into flour, you need not remove it because it is not considered to be a foreign material and actually it adds 14 trace minerals to your bread. It is the only insecticide that you can treat grain with one time and never ever have to treat it again. It keeps it absolutely fresh and clean."

"Toxi-Cleanse - Working from the inside to detoxify and strengthen immunity", by Gloria McAdams.
"Diatomaceous Earth (Fossil Shell Flour) is a mineral product mined from the fossilized silica shell remains of unicellular or colonial algae of the class Bicillariopilyceae, better known as diatoms. DE deposits were laid down as tiny skeletons of diatoms, which are a type of plankton, in the beds of oceans and lakes.
After DE is mined, it is left in its natural amorphous state or it is milled and processed for a myriad of uses. There is a tremendous difference in the processing of different kinds of DE.
DE used for swimming pool filters comes from the same fossil sources, but it is chemically and thermally treated to produce a product with sixty to seventy percent crystalline silica content. Because its sharp crystalline edges are capable of puncturing lung tissue, it is a respiratory hazard, which can cause silicosis. Therefore, DE used for swimming pool filters is dangerous to use or be around.
The DE used in Toxi-Cleanse has a talcum-like consistency and a low crystalline content. The amorphous diatomaceous earth used by Wisdom of the Ages in the formulation of Toxi-Cleanse, with its very low crystalline content, is not considered to be a health hazard to humans and warm-blooded animals because their bodies can assimilate it. It is the only product we know of that has been registered by the EPA for use in protecting grain from insect infestation for long-term storage. It has been given a GRAS (generally regarded as safe) rating by the FDA. It is food grade and is often labeled as an "anti-caking agent".
Medical breakthroughs have brought DE to the foreground of consideration for internal use with human ailments.
E.coli, a bacteria that lives in the intestinal tracts of humans, helps digestion and produces vitamin K. However, its pernicious relative by the same name lives in the intestines of cattle. When this bacteria is introduced into the bodies of humans, it secretes a powerful toxin. It can cause kidney failure in a matter of days. When this type of E.coli is treated with antibiotics, the bacteria ruptures and the spread of the toxin accelerates.
At the University of Alberta, Glen Armstrong and his co-workers devised a way to stop E.coli toxin with a decoy (Discover Magazine, November, 1994). The decoy is made of sugar and DE. The E.coli attaches itself to the sugar molecule, which the bacteria perceives as a receptor. Both are then excreted with the indigestible DE particles. It is that simple. The decoy has already been tested on volunteers with no ill effects. Children are very vulnerable to the E.coli toxin and chemical trials are now underway in Canada specifically for children.
The Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria, reports in its study a potential influence of DE to lower cholesterol. During 12 weeks we monitored serum lipid concentrations in 19 healthy individuals with moderate hypercholesterolnemia (9 females and 10 males, aged 35-67 years). Individuals administered orally 250 mg DE three times daily during an 8-week period. Serum concentrations of cholesterol, high-density and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were measured before the study entry, every second week during the period of DE intake and 4 weeks after the stop of intake.
DE intake was associated with a significant reduction of serum cholesterol at any time point, reaching a minimum on week six. Also low-density lipoprotein cholesterol reached <0.05 in week 4 and triglyceride levels decreased to <0.01 in week 4. Four weeks after the intake of DE was stopped, serum cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides still remained low and also the increase of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol became significant. DE is capable of reducing blood cholesterol and positively influencing lipid metabolism in humans. (Clinical trial PMID 953390, UI:98202622).
Dr. Galen Knight, Ph.D., tested DE and found that when blended with Inositol (as in the exclusive formula, "Toxi-Cleanse", by Wisdom of the Ages, Inc.) it was even more effective in removing toxic metals and chemicals from the body.
(Inositol is vital for hair growth, has a calming effect, helps reduce cholesterol levels, prevents hardening of the arteries, and helps depression and anxiety disorders without side effects)
Dr. Galen Knight reports:
'We have tested this particular FOOD GRADE, FRESH WATER, AMORPHOUS DIATOMACEOUS EARTH, against several other products available. It has proven to be the very best every time. It is the only product I know of that is GRAS by the FDA.'
DE has been reported in scientific literature to absorb mercury, E.coli, endotoxins, viruses (including poliovirus), organophosphate pesticide residues, drug residues, and protein, perhaps even proteinaceous residues produced by bacterial infections. Pyrethroid insecticide residues could bind to DE, since it is known to bind and stabilize the pyrethrins from chrysanthemum flower."
Toxi-Cleanse is an all natural product that has a base ingredient of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth or fossil shell flour. This natural body-cleansing agent is rich in natural silica and 14 other trace minerals. People with Storage Disease should not take this or any other product containing silica. Storage Disease is a metabolic disorder in which certain cells accumulate excessive amounts of lipids, proteins, or other substances.
The minerals contained in Toxi-Cleanse include boron, calcium, copper, inositol, iron, magnesium, sodium, sulfate sulfur, titanium, vanadium, zinc and chlorides. Because of its high content of silica (79%), Toxi-Cleanse helps build healthier skin, hair, nails and cartilage.
GET A CLEAN SWEEP WITH SILICON(Continuation of above article by Gloria McAdams)
"Next to oxygen, silicon is the most abundant mineral on our planet, making up more than 25% of the earth's crust!"
"Medical researchers suspect it may be nutritionally important but its function in the human body is poorly understood owing to very little research. For most people, awareness of silicon is limited to computer chips and breast implants, despite the fact it is found widely in sand, quartz and clay, and even in gemstones of amethyst, jasper and opal.
Only when I bought 50 pounds of diatomaceous earth (DE) to prevent infestation in my pantry grains did I become aware of the potential health impact silicon can have. Silicon transmits electricity, light and heat. Diatomaceous earth (DE), a white, cornstarch-like powder of finely ground fossilized algae consists of about 79% silicone and 14 other valuable minerals.
Under the microscope silicon particles resemble miniaturized snowflakes. The abrasive surface wears away the waxy outer coating of insects, then absorbs body fluids until the insect dies of dehydration. No more bugs in the cereal! Because destruction is accomplished through a mechanical action, there is no possibility of insects developing immunity to this method of control. Grains and seeds treated with as little as one pound DE to a ton remain insect-free virtually forever. DE can also be used as an insecticide on most crops to control aphids, brown mites, and red spider mites, twig bores and various moths when applied to moist leaves.
Many pages of information about DE usage came with my purchase. Some of the most fascinating, reported amazing applications to farmyard animals. Given to cows, milk production increased 25%. Mixed with the feed of sheep, 8-year-old ewes were soon springing around like young Iambs. Hogs stopped chewing their wood feeding troughs. Tumors and cysts disappeared, and flies in the farmyard were practically eliminated."
There is not a safer pesticide or more natural preservative known to man than Diatomaceous Earth!
"For at least two decades DE has been used as a natural wormer for livestock without the inherent risks of powerful insecticides. Mixed with feed at a ratio of 2% of dry weight and fed for about 60 days to cover the full parasitic cycle, DE effectively rids animals of parasites while supplying a broad range of minerals from ancient seabeds. The health improvements observed in animals appear to be a result of three primary actions: (1) Eliminating parasites reduces physiological stress and increases assimilation of nutrients from food. (2) DE is a rich source of minerals not abundantly available in today's feed crops. (3) DE may bind to toxic metal build-up and help to rid it from the body."
Silicon (Silica) is the second most abundant element on the planet (oxygen is the first) necessary for the formation of collagen, for bones and connective tissue, for healthy nails, skin and hair, and for calcium absorption.
"Silicon is essential to animal health. Absence of silicon results in bone and collagen abnormalities. Further, research on humans shows silicon increases the thickness and strength of skin, diminishes wrinkles and gives hair and nails a healthier appearance. Although RDA's have not been established for silicon, research has indicated a connection with lower cholesterol and improved immunity. All of these benefits accrue without any apparent negative side effects."
Do not confuse food-grade DE with the product available for use with swimming pool filters, which is industrial grade, not suitable for human consumption.

Excerpts from the article, "Diatomaceous Earth Organic Pest Control.. .and More!" By Nancy M. Brannon.
"In an effort to protect the environment, humans, and animals, there is a recent surge to develop natural fly repellents and pesticides. While at the same time there are groups of people who have the Y2K fear that the world, as we know it, is coming to an end. How will they keep pests from devouring their stored grain before the human victims can use it? Mother Nature supplied the solution to those problems millions of years ago. Diatomaceous Earth (DE). It can be used effectively, as a pesticide on and around livestock, and in grain storage, it eliminates everything but the grain. In an outside environment, it's totally harmless to everyone and everything with less than six legs. It works very well on killing bugs and it doesn't stop working. Inside the human body, the organic powder has been used in tests for treatment of E. coli bacteria poisoning, and for lowering blood cholesterols. DE passed both with flying colors.
DE is a mineral product mined from the fossilized silica shell remains of unicellular or colonial algae of the class Bacillariopliyceae, better known as diatoms. There are many species of diatoms, and each has its own unique physical construction and shape, ranging from barrel-like forms to flat discs."

"Fossil Shell Flour is given "free choice" to calves at 36 to 48 hours after birth. The calves readily consume it, even at this young age.
Fossil Shell Flour has been used on approximately 2,000 calves, the results have been consistent and gratifying. The incidence of calf scours has been 99% eliminated. The reason for Fossil Shell Flour doing such a commendable job of preventing calf scours, Pneumonia; and white muscle disease, is due to the baby being provided with a well balanced complex of chelated minerals. Our experience in our own herd of beef cattle has been that by using Fossil Shell Flour we have been able to stop the use of vaccines and antibiotics."
Published by the Canadian Bison Association. Excerpts from the article, "Nourish the Healthy Qualities of Your Bison", by Lori Wheeler.
"Brian Cunningham (Bison rancher in Alberta) conducted fecal test samples to check for parasites after using diatomaceous earth for several weeks. His tests came out negative. Neither he nor his vet believed it, so they took more samples from different Bison, from different herds, which had been fed diatomaceous earth - negative. Not only did he solve his parasite problem with a non-toxic, natural product, but he found that the coats and overall appearance of his bison had improved. Another benefit is that some diatomaceous earth remains in the manure, preventing the eggs of flies and parasites from hatching out, thereby, breaking the cycle of re-infestation."
After all the evidence of what DE does for animals, wouldn't it do the same for humans?
The evidence that we are beginning to see says... YES!

Discover Magazine, "Fooling E. coli".
"E. coli are our friends: living in our intestines, they help digest our food and supply us with vitamin K. But there is an ugly strain of E. coli, that kills more than 200 people each year in the United States. These bacteria normally reside in the intestines of cattle; they reach humans through contaminated beef - as in the case of the outbreak that killed four people in Seattle in January 1993. (The source of infection was traced to a single fast-food chain.) The bacteria secrete a powerful toxin that damages the cells lining the gut wall, causing cramps and diarrhea. Eventually the toxin seeps through the damaged lining into the bloodstream. Kidney failure occurs within four to five days. Antibiotics are ineffective: they work by rupturing the bacteria, which only accelerates the spread of the toxin.
Glen Armstrong and his colleagues at the University of Alberta have devised a way to stop the toxin in its tracks. They have created a decoy that holds off the toxin until the body can build up antibodies to the bacteria, which takes about a week. Armstrong's decoys are made of sugar molecules. Each decoy is joined to a bit of diatomaceous earth (composed of 80% silica) - a porous sand that consists of the tiny skeletons of diatoms, which are a type of plankton. When the patient drinks the gritty fluid containing the decoys, the toxin molecules bind to the decoys and are then excreted along with the indigestible (diatomaceous) sand particles.
The decoy has already been tested on healthy volunteers with no ill effects. In clinical trials now under way in Canada, it is being used to treat children infected with toxic E. coli. (Children are particularly vulnerable to the toxin, apparently because their kidney cells carry more receptors for it than do the kidney cells of adults.)"

A. What Is Inositol and What Can It Do For Me?
Excerpts from the book, "IP6, Nature's Revolutionary Cancer-Fighter", by AbulKalam M. Shamsuddin, MD, Ph.D.

IP6 (Inositol): Nature's Sweet Gift
"One of nature's most important gifts for the preservation of health and life itself is Inositol, considered a member of the B complex family of vitamins. Inositol is found in almost every cell and is essential for key body functions. The brain, the nervous system, and the reproductive organs all depend on a constant supply of Inositol. Most importantly, in relation to cancer, Inositol helps control the growth and number of cells. Cancerous cells arise in our bodies every day, but our immune system can usually keep these invaders in check. When cells multiply without control, they can overwhelm the body's immune system, and cancer can take hold. Inositol and its family of related molecules, the Inositol phosphates, work in concert to prevent such an event.
In laboratory and animal experiments, Inositol has demonstrated striking properties in the prevention and treatment of cancer. The Inositol phosphates in red blood cells may playa very important role in regulating their oxygen-carrying capacity. This role may have relevance in the treatment of sickle cell anemia.
IP6 prevents kidney stone formation and fatty liver. It can also increase the body's resistance to infection. IP6 acts to reduce two key risk factors for heart disease: serum cholesterol and triglycerides.
It also prevents damage to the heart muscle cells during a heart attack. Inositol has been used in treatment of psychiatric disorders, and has been shown to be effective in preventing many of the complications associated with diabetes mellitus."

IV. MERCURY TOXICITY
A. What Is It?
Excerpts from the book, "It's All In Your Head: The Link
Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness". By Dr. Hal A. Huggins.
"This question - what is mercury toxicity? - is one of the most difficult to answer, because mercury attacks the body in so many ways. Mercury kills cells by interfering with their ability to exchange oxygen, nutrients, and waste products through the cell membrane. Inside the cell, mercury destroys our genetic code, DNA, leaving us without the ability to reproduce that cell ever again. Chronic fatigue syndrome also has a mercury component.
Amalgam is the generic term for the most commonly used dental filling in the world, silver-mercury amalgam. Amalgam is a mixture of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and zinc. Mercury comprises the largest portion (around 50 percent).
What happens to mercury when it comes out of a filling? Mercury is highly reactive chemically. In the mouth, mercury has the ability to combine with a carbon-hydrogen compound called a methyl group. Methyl mercury is 100 times more toxic than plain, elemental mercury. It is especially toxic to the brain and nerve tissue, which may explain amalgam's relationship to MS, epilepsy, and emotional disturbances.
Mercury does come out of fillings; it does produce a toxic compound that is given off as the fillings corrode; and enough of this substance does form to cause disease. This by itself should make us pretty sure it can cause a health problem. If 100,000 of the 140,000 dentists in the United States place nine fillings per day each - about three hours' worth of work - that is 900,000 mercury fillings per day.
Douglas Swartzendruber, Ph.D., an experimental pathologist at the University of Colorado, recently compiled articles from the scientific literature relating MS not only to mercury in general, but specifically to mercury from dental fillings. Further, a hypothesis presented in 1983 by Theodore Ingalls, M.D., in the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology proposed that the seepage of mercury from root canals or amalgam fillings might lead to MS in middle age."
B. Visible Symptoms
Continued Excerpts from the book, "It's All In Your Head: The Link Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness". By Dr. Hal A. Huggins.
"90.2 percent of us are reactive to mercury. What sort of reaction should we expect? The ways in which mercury attacks the body can be identified in five categories. The categories are: neurological, cardiovascular, collagen, immunological, and miscellaneous.
Neurological problems encompass two divisions, motor and sensory. An example of motor problems would be tremors, while sensory might be brainfog (spaciness), short-term memory problems, or depression. The percentages of patients exhibiting these mercury-caused problems are: depression, 73.3 percent; numb fingers or toes, 67.3 percent; memory problems, 58.0 percent; and jitteriness or nervousness, 38.1 percent.
As with many aspects of mercury toxicity, the term "unexplained" precedes the names of specific mercury-induced cardiovascular symptoms. Heart attacks have a specific cause. Mercury-caused problems are elusive. The percentages I have found are: unexplained chest pains, 35.6 percent, and unexplained tachycardia, 32.4 percent.
The most common problem in the collagen category is arthritis. Constant or frequent pain in the joints constitutes 35.5 percent of the symptoms in this category.
Immunological disorders are probably the most significant category, as shown by studies done in my laboratory on over 3,500 people. Over 90 percent of these people demonstrated immune reactivity. This is most often seen in what are called autoimmune diseases, or diseases in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. Examples of autoimmune diseases include MS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), lupus erythematosus, diabetes, certain types of arthritis, and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
The miscellaneous category gets crowded. Some of the symptoms include: frequent urination, 64.5 percent; chronic fatigue, 63.1 percent; bloated feeling after eating, 60.6 percent; recurring constipation, 54.6 percent; ringing in the ears, 47.8 percent; metallic taste in the mouth, 38.7 percent; suicidal thoughts, 37.3 percent; and headaches after eating, 20.1 percent. The miscellaneous category also includes allergies. Many of today's food and airborne allergies seem to show a correlation between placement of fillings and the onset of these allergies. With allergies, just removing the offending fillings, unfortunately, does not bring about an alleviation of symptoms.
What if mercury is present? The bloodstream is the primary avenue for mercury to enter and exit the body. Recent dental journal articles by Ors. C.W. Svare and D.O. Gay show that there is a relationship between blood levels of mercury and the number of silver-mercury fillings present in the mouth. Researched and published articles show that at autopsy, people's brain levels of mercury corresponded with the number of silver fillings in their mouths."
Are You Mercury Toxic?
As we now know, mercury can be very toxic to your body and cause many side effects. The Diatomaceous Earth in Toxi-Cleanse is used with great success to remove heavy metals such as mercury from the body.
If you should suspect you are mercury toxic or just want to insure your good health, Toxi-Cleanse may be your answer.
C. Hidden Effects
Continued Excerpts from the book, "It's All In Your Head: The Link Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness".
By Dr. Hal A. Huggins.
"Let's look now at minerals directly affected by mercury, and what you can do to help your treatment progress more rapidly.
Calcium. Bone density is controlled by the minerals, magnesium and manganese. Because both calcium and magnesium activate the process that begins the production of energy, and because calcium is necessary for the absorption of magnesium, it is easy to understand that the proper amount of biologically active calcium at the cellular level is necessary for you to have a good energy level.
Mercury. Although amalgams are the biggest source of exposure to mercury, they are not the only source. Probably the greatest dietary source of mercury is tuna. This is followed closely by shellfish like lobster and shrimp. As a rule, the larger the fish, the greater the amount of mercury it contains. As you have probably realized by now, any amount of mercury in the diet can be considered too much.
- Helps to control the glucose level
- Aids in the calcification of teeth
- Works with magnesium to prevent muscle cramping
- Aids in the development of the inner and outer ear
- Works with magnesium in the control of hyperkinetic and autistic behavior in children
- Aids in nerve impulse transmission
- Helps prevent tingling and numbness in the limbs
- Works with zinc in the prevention of birth defects
- The action of manganese is blocked by mercury
Zinc. Zinc is essential in the activation of over 80 percent of the body's enzyme systems. Perhaps one of its most important functions is in helping to control glucose levels. It is also important I the growth of bone, and, along with magnesium, is vital in the healing process. Zinc is very important in the development of children. Keep this in mind during pregnancy if your dentist wants to place an amalgam. Mercury, by deactivating zinc, can contribute to birth defects. You should avoid sugar, alcohol, and caffeine if your zinc level is deficient, as is seen in so many mercury-toxic patients.
Magnesium. Where there is a lack of magnesium, there is also a higher potential for tooth decay, so as a means of controlling dental problems, magnesium is essential. Alcohol lowers magnesium levels.
Chromium. Low levels of chromium are found in patients who habitually eat large amounts of carbohydrates. A high intake of carbohydrates will lower chromium levels because chromium is necessary in the activation of insulin and is part of what is known as the glucose tolerance factor. Most people do not get sufficient amounts of chromium from the foods they eat It is necessary to be very strict about dietary control and taking supplementation.
Potassium. Nearly all medications and drugs will upset potassium metabolism. Potassium deficiency and / or contamination is characteristic of MS patients, and is the number-two deficiency in the periodontal patient."
Minerals are important to keep a proper balance for our cells to function and carry out the tasks our bodies need in order to function properly.
Minerals are needed for the formation of blood and bone, the maintenance of good health, nerve function and regulation of muscle tone, including cardiovascular.
All the important minerals - calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, potassium and chromium - are essential minerals to good health.
These minerals appear in Toxi-Cleanse. When taking this supplement every day, you are not only detoxifying some of the more deadly toxins from your body, but also replenishing the very important minerals that mercury and other toxins are depleting from your body.
"Some of the most common exposures to mercury come through foods, cosmetics, medications, household chemicals, gardening chemicals, and other items that contain high levels of mercury, as well as professions and industries in which people are exposed to mercury. You can see how many places mercury is used in our modern environment It is impossible to avoid all sources."
There are so many sources of mercury poisoning, and so many other toxins we come in contact with every day, and are not even aware of.
I believe taking Toxi-Cleanse every day is the best assurance we have to stay healthy.

Gloria McAdams -
"Threatened with new lumps and bumps this past summer, always leery of fresh symptoms due to my on-going challenge of lymphoma, I decided to do a bit of experimentation with my own health with this innocuous substance. I took a tablespoon of DE with liquid (juice, smoothies, or water) about three times a week, and to my amazement the chickpea-sized lump that had arisen on top of my head completely disappeared. The silver dollar-sized lump on the side of my neck vanished. And whatever was impeding passage of colon contents was dramatically cleared. With or without research, moderate use of the FDA-approved anti-caking, food-grade substance proved to be a vital piece of my health puzzle."
G.K., Albuquerque, NM -
"My body became very toxic with the heavy metal, nickel. I had sores break out on my skin. I became very exhausted all the time. I started taking diatomaceous earth, fossil shell flour, in an effort to remove the toxic metals. I have since been tested and I have no sign of toxic nickel, plus my sores went away."
C.B., Michigan -
"I had cancer and a friend told me about a wonderful product called Toxi-Cleanse. I started taking this product. Within a short time my cancer tumors began going away. I am now totally free of cancer and I feel great."
Teri Shuman -
"My name is Teri Shuman. I was diagnosed with liver cancer in July of 1994. After eight months of chemo poison, I decided to do things God's way and learn to heal myself with the Genesis 1 :29 diet. It put me in remission until I painted a house I was renting and had to have it sprayed for termites. After that I came down with a 4cm. Tumor in my upper right femur. Gloria McAdams told me about Toxi-Cleanse and I took three tablespoons every night and noticed I became pain-free. Than I ran out of it and noticed my pain came back. Two times I started taking Toxi-Cleanse and ran out only to notice that once again my pain returned. Then I realized it was the Toxi-Cleanse that was keeping me pain-free. I don't know how it works, I only know that it does. I still take three tablespoons at bedtime. I am on an 80/20 diet and drink lots of water, take herbs and stay close to God. Everything I do is alternative. I sure am glad God led me to Gloria."
With Sincere Blessings, Teri Shuman

"I am writing this in hopes that someone will read this and be helped like I am. I tried diatomaceous earth, using about 3 heaping tablespoons in a cup of water, to appease my husband. He said it would be good for my hair. It doesn't taste bad, it actually is good. However a week later we were driving to the store; I looked down and noticed I had nails. I have bitten my nails since I can remember. I went out and bought polish. I could not believe how fast they were growing and the urge to bite them was no longer there. My hair was also thinning in front and it is now filled in. When my 25-year old sister was pregnant, she craved chalk. Her husband would actually go to the store and buy her chalk to eat. I gave her some of the diatomaceous earth and she loved it. She quit eating chalk and took the diatomaceous earth every day."
Thank You, Cheryl Guthrie

Heavy Metal Detoxification: For heavy metals such as mercury and nickel, pesticides, exhaust fumes and other harmful chemicals, take 2 Tablespoons twice daily with water or juice.
Parasites: Take 1 Tablespoon 2 times daily (morning and evening) with water or juice. Kills all types of parasites.
Psoriasis: Toxi-Cleanse is very good for many types of skin problems. Take 1 Tablespoon at bedtime with a large glass of water.
Cancer: Toxi-Cleanse contains diatomaceous earth and inositol, two anti-cancergenics. Take 2 Tablespoons 2 times daily.
Bowel Problems: Ulcers, gastritis, constipation, nausea, diverticulitis and colitis. Take 1 Tablespoon 2 times daily with water or juice.
Animal Feed: Use Toxi-Cleanse as an anti-caking agent in animal feed, in an amount not to exceed 2% by weight of the total ration. Keeps feed particles separate (no clumping); both good bacteria and enzymes are increased; more feed is digested and utilized.
VII. Toxi-Cleanse INSECTICIDE INSTRUCTIONS:
Toxi-Cleanse INSECTICIDE is not the same product as regular Toxi-Cleanse. The INSECTICIDE contains natural Pyrethins and is NOT SAFE for human consumption. Read the instructions on the bottle before using this product. Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide can be applied by the use of any equipment made to handle dust or powder, whether it is hand or power operated.
Spiders, Roaches and Silverfish: In most cases general application is not needed, but localized attention to cracks and crevices, under stoves and refrigerators, and in likely hiding places. Be sure to treat around sinks and drainpipes, and if there is an opening into the sewer line, blow a considerable amount of product in the line. Being closed, air pressure forces the dust further down the line, coating the upper half of the pipe, leaving no safe place for roaches. This protection exists as far as the line is coated.
Crickets, Scorpions and Box Elder Bugs: Dust lightly around windows, doors and other places where pests may enter.
Moths, Flies and Ants: Dry powder: Lightly coat windowsills so flies and moths lighting will contact the dust. If the outside walls of the house, shrubbery, or outbuildings are dusted, flies and moths are greatly reduced. Stir the ant mound with a rake or other tool, agitating the ants. Apply Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide liberally on the immediate area, contacting as many ants as possible. Sprinkle powder along windowsills and doorways. Repeat treatment as needed. Wet Application: Use one-half cup of Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide with a teaspoon of mild detergent per gallon of water. Saturate the mound or bed with the entire gallon of mixture.
Healthy Fly-Controlled Environment for Barns, Stables, Kennels and Corrals: Dust Barns and Corrals with diatomaceous earth. Also dust your cattle, horses, sheep, chickens, pigs, or any other animals you keep and their pens; this powder will not harm them. Animals will be free of flies and other pests. Animals love it.
Fleas, Ticks and Lice: Lightly work Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide into the hair of the animal. Use brush or comb to work material down to the skin. Pay close attention to places where the animal cannot reach, such as the scalp. Dust the ears of the animal with care. Dust the animals bedding and areas where the animal sleeps, as well as cracks and crevices adjacent to them. Repeat once a month or as necessary. Rugs: Make a thin coating on rug. Rake (not sweep) nap back and forth, causing dust to enter rug. Leave overnight. When cleaning, do not make special effort to remove dust in rug. It will kill live fleas, repel others, and will deodorize carpet.
Gardening and Flower Gardens: Sprinkle plants and their fruit with Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide. Kills ladybeetles, slugs, squash bugs, grasshoppers, katydids, cabbage worms, potato beetles, tomato horn worm, sow bugs and any other kind of pest that might try to invade your garden. Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide will kill many different kinds of pests but is not harmful to humans. You can eat it, and it has no odor. Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide is a wonderful way to take care of those ugly pests and have a healthy garden.
Outside Area: Apply 8 to 16 oz. of Toxi-Cleanse Insecticide per 1000 sq. ft. of yard. Two or three applications per year should do the job. This can be done as dry dust or as wettable powder, using suitable equipment.
The strengths of Toxi-Cleanse diatomaceous earth formula are many, as this booklet has pointed out. Stories about Toxi-Cleanse's benefits for people and animals continue to multiply. It's a health formula whose multi-use properties make it a product everyone can benefit from.
